# Git Remembers How Knowledge Changes

Git records versions of files over time. In an ideaspace, it records a version when you choose to capture something worth remembering.

That history lets you:

- see what changed;
- understand how an idea developed;
- return to an earlier version;
- compare changes made by different people;
- combine agreed changes without everyone editing one live document.

## It came from software development

Git was created in the software-development community to help developers work together on a shared codebase. Code created a clear need: many people had to make changes without losing history or overwriting one another.

Knowledge has the same need. People and agents explore in parallel, update what they understand, and sometimes disagree. Git gives those changes a history that everyone can inspect.

Git does not decide which understanding is correct. When two people change the same thing differently, it preserves the difference so they can review it together.

## Your agent handles it

You do not need to operate Git yourself. Your agent handles the machinery; the history remains available for you to inspect.
